When it comes to voting,
Christians must carefully review what each party stands for in light of Scripture.
The Republican Party stands
behind Israel. Here is what the platform
says:
Our Unequivocal Support of Israel
Israel and the United States are
part of the great fellowship of democracies who speak the same language of
freedom and justice, and the right of every person to live in peace. The
security of Israel is in the vital national security interest of the United
States; our alliance is based not only on shared interests, but also shared
values. We affirm our unequivocal commitment to Israel’s security and will
ensure that it maintains a qualitative edge in military technology over any
potential adversaries. We support Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state
with secure, defensible borders; and we envision two democratic states – Israel
with Jerusalem as its capital and Palestine – living in peace and security. For
that to happen, the Palestinian people must support leaders who reject terror,
embrace the institutions and ethos of democracy, and respect the rule of law.
We call on Arab governments throughout the region to help advance that goal.
Israel should not be expected to negotiate with entities pledged to her
destruction. We call on the new government in Egypt to fully uphold its peace
treaty with Israel.
The U.S. seeks a comprehensive
and lasting peace in the Middle East, negotiated between the parties themselves
with the assistance of the U.S., without the imposition of an artificial timetable.
Essential to that process will be a just, fair, and realistic framework for
dealing with the issues that can be settled on the basis of mutually agreed
changes reflecting today’s realities as well as tomorrow’s hopes.
Here’s what scripture says:
In God’s word we are told in
Genesis 12: 2 And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, And
make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing; 3 And I will bless
those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all
the families of the earth will be blessed."
Looks like a no brainer to me—Republicans
support Israel so Christians should support Republicans.
Next we see that Republicans believe in preserving traditional
marriage:
Preserving and Protecting
Traditional Marriage
The institution of marriage is
the foundation of civil society. Its success as an institution will determine
our success as a nation. It has been proven by both experience and endless
social science studies that traditional marriage is best for children. Children
raised in intact married families are more likely to attend college, are
physically and emotionally healthier, are less likely to use drugs or alcohol,
engage in crime, or get pregnant outside of marriage. The success of marriage directly
impacts the economic well-being of individuals. Furthermore, the future of
marriage affects freedom. The lack of family formation not only leads to more
government costs, but also to more government control over the lives of its
citizens in all aspects. We recognize and honor the courageous efforts of those
who bear the many burdens of parenting alone, even as we believe that marriage,
the union of one man and one woman must be upheld as the national standard, a
goal to stand for, encourage, and promote through laws governing marriage. We
embrace the principle that all Americans should be treated with respect and
dignity.
Scripture
says:
In God’s word it says in Genesis
2: 18 Then the LORD God
said, "It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper
suitable for him." 19 Out of the ground the LORD God formed every
beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to
see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature,
that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all the cattle, and to the
birds of the sky, and to every beast of the field, but for Adam there was not
found a helper suitable for him. 21 So the LORD God caused a deep sleep
to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up
the flesh at that place. 22 The LORD God fashioned into a woman the rib
which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man. 23 The man
said, "This is now bone of my bones, And flesh of my flesh; She shall be
called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man." 24 For this reason
a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and
they shall become one flesh. 25 And the man and his wife were both naked
and were not ashamed.
In
Romans 1 the Bible talks about man’s rebellion against God and then it says in
Romans 1: 26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions;
for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27
and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman
and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent
acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. 28
And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them
over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, 29
being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy,
murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters
of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to
parents, 31 without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; 32
and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such
things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty
approval to those who practice them.
Again
it is clear that Christians should support Republicans.
Next Republicans support:
The Sanctity and Dignity of Human
Life (Top)
Faithful to the “self-evident”
truths enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, we assert the sanctity of
human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right
to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the
Constitution and endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth
Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children. We oppose using public
revenues to promote or perform abortion or fund organizations which perform or
advocate it and will not fund or subsidize health care which includes abortion
coverage. We support the appointment of judges who respect traditional family
values and the sanctity of innocent human life. We oppose the non-consensual
withholding or withdrawal of care or treatment, including food and water, from
people with disabilities, including newborns, as well as the elderly and
infirm, just as we oppose active and passive euthanasia and assisted suicide.
Republican leadership has led the
effort to prohibit the barbaric practice of partial-birth abortion and
permitted States to extend health care coverage to children before birth. We
urge Congress to strengthen the Born Alive Infant Protection Act by enacting
appropriate civil and criminal penalties on healthcare providers who fail to
provide treatment and care to an infant who survives an abortion, including
early induction delivery where the death of the infant is intended. We call for
legislation to ban sex-selective abortions – gender discrimination in its most
lethal form – and to protect from abortion unborn children who are capable of
feeling pain; and we applaud U.S. House Republicans for leading the effort to
protect the lives of pain-capable unborn children in the District of Columbia.
We call for a ban on the use of body parts from aborted fetuses for research.
We support and applaud adult stem cell research to develop lifesaving
therapies, and we oppose the killing of embryos for their stem cells. We oppose
federal funding of embryonic stem cell research.
We also salute the many States
that have passed laws for informed consent, mandatory waiting periods prior to
an abortion, and health-protective clinic regulation. We seek to protect young
girls from exploitation through a parental consent requirement; and we affirm
our moral obligation to assist, rather than penalize, women challenged by an
unplanned pregnancy. We salute those who provide them with counseling and
adoption alternatives and empower them to choose life, and we take comfort in
the tremendous increase in adoptions that has followed Republican legislative
initiatives.
Here’s
what Scripture says:
Exodus 21: 22 "If men struggle
with each other and strike a woman with child so that she gives birth
prematurely, yet there is no injury, he shall surely be fined as the woman's
husband may demand of him, and he shall pay as the judges decide.
Isaiah
44: 2 Thus says the LORD who made you And formed you from the womb, who
will help you, 'Do not fear, O Jacob My servant; And you Jeshurun whom I have
chosen.
Psalm
139: 13 For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother's womb.
14 I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. 15 My frame
was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in
the depths of the earth; 16 Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And
in Your book were all written The days that were ordained for me, When as yet
there was not one of them.
Psalm
51: 5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother
conceived me.
Jeremiah
1: 5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you
were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the
nations."
Luke
1: 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leaped in her womb;
and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
Luke
1: 31 "And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son,
and you shall name Him Jesus.
So it is plain that in light of Scripture
Christians should vote for Republicans.
Now
I would like someone to prove to me that the Democratic Party Platform is one
that Christians should support. If you
can do this please provide scripture to back up your assertions. The link is here: http://www.democrats.org/democratic-national-platform
