POLITICS AND RELIGION

C.S. Lewis church Belfast UK

Our granddaughter, Samantha, stuck her toe into politics at school.  She ran for the School Spirit Coordinator.  We are very proud.  One time I ran for neighborhood caucus chair and was elected.  I had to resign right away because I refused to go to any of the meetings.  I had a neighborhood meeting at our house and handed off the caucus chair. That was the end of my effort.

I believe some Christians are called into politics.  According to Matthew 5:13-16 we are supposed to be salt and light.  One man who followed God's call into politics was William Wilberforce.  Here is a podcast on his background.

C.S. Lewis was influential in politics through his "Screwtape Letters,"a book which showed that politics can be a point of temptation.  Lewis saw to the heart of a philosophical mistake that would gradually unmake our civilization; in speeches, books, and essays he argued that if you debunk the idea of God, then the government will one day become your God.

Here ,from World Magazine, is a good article on why and when Christians should be interested in politics.

One way for a Christian to do what is good is to tell the truth in love.  How do we know the truth?  The Bible tells us the truth.

II Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
